Multilocus sequence typing (MLST)

Wet-lab technology to detect variability in 5-10 housekeeping genes for identifying bacterial strains.

The E. coli MLST scheme, for example, includes 7 sequence fragments of the following seven conserved genes: adk, fumC, gyrB, icd, mdh, purA, recA.
